The Current by Tim Johnston + Giveaway

44444444444

Audrey Sutter’s life was stretched thin after her good friend and her were pulled from the icy grips of Black Root River.

Only unlike Audrey, her friend was not so lucky to come out alive.

Finding out what happened was no accident has the whole town buzzing with memories. Just ten years earlier another young women had lost her life in that same river.

Knowing that her killer is still loose, living among them. Audrey feels strongly connected to this young girl and becomes obsessed on finding out what truly happened all those years ago. While also wanting to know the truth to her own story.

4.5 Stars out of 5

Strictly my individual opinion.

I found The Current had some strong pros to it but also some very, very minor cons to it. Which lead to my 4.5 star rate out of 5. Which is still a top-notch rating in my eyes and should not discourage anyone from reading this novel! As I still highly recommend this read!

I am going to do my absolute best to share this with no spoilers! As I am not a fan of spoilers. This could leave parts of my review very vague as this is a hard story to explain while not giving anything away.

Pros first!

Tim Johnston’s writing is incredible. Pulling you into the story.

The Current is fast, exciting, thrilling. Keeps you on the edge of your seat want to know more and more. One of those hard to put down reads!

A handful of characters will steal your heart and you will find yourself rooting for them through the whole story. Perhaps even finding yourself defending them in situations they find themselves in. Which again leaves you wanting more just on those characters alone.

I also adore the relationships that exist in this book. Some are so heart warming and others were just starting and growing on you by the end of the book.

Now for the MINOR cons. And I can’t stress enough on the minor!

The Current starting right off with such an extreme fast pace, jumping from character to character and at times with very little information on the person or detail of the setting. This could become confusing at times. I found myself having to go back and re-read sections to be sure I didn’t miss anything crucial, or that I was understanding everything correctly. Each character was critical to the story and had huge meaning as it set the story up for what you would find out down the road.

I also found that some characters stories were lost and not completed by the end of the book. Nor did I feel that Audrey’s personal situation was completely fulfilled. But now that being said! To my knowledge this is a stand-alone read. Perhaps though it was being set up in a way that more could be added on in the future. I mean I could only hope for that as closing the book up had my brain going a million miles a minute, craving more.

As mentioned above, I do highly recommend this read. I feel any book lover that shows even a slight interest in the synopsis of this novel needs to run out and pick it up on release day!

Be sure to have your game face on when you jump in, as you will find yourself consumed and intertwined with the story!

Season Of Wonder by Raeanne Thayne

“It’s a long way from New York to Idaho….but could they have found a home at last?”

Dani didn’t have the easiest childhood, she didn’t always make the best decisions in her adult life either.

Determined now to make a better life for not only herself but her two incredible daughter’s 13-year-old Silver and 6-year-old Mia. Dani takes the leap making what seems to be the best choice for the family and moves them to Haven Point, Idaho.

With some welcomed changes and not so welcomed. Silver is unhappy and starts to get into some trouble of her own. She may even get herself in trouble with her neighbour who happens to be Deputy Sheriff Ruben Morales.

Ruben makes a point in doing anything he can to help Silver, as he sees what type of person she truly is inside. But Dani and Ruben’s joint concern for her daughter only brings them closer and closer.

Showing a glimpse of the completed family they could be.

5 out of 5 stars.

I thoroughly enjoyed this read. Full of twists and turns and many obstacles when it comes to Dani’s oldest, Silver.

Some relationships are on the mend while others are just starting.

Dani truly adores her children and would do anything for them, even if it means she passes up what she truly wants. But her daughters don’t want that, they want their Mom to be every bit as happy as them. Which is just what Ruben is to Dani… the exact meaning of happy.

Such an adorable read, anytime of the year, even if it is set around the Holiday season

Thank you to HQN books for sending this heart warming read my way.

And of course thank you all for reading!

Canadian Author – Steena Holmes

It truly says something when you pick up your first book by an author, read only a couple of chapters into the book and know right away this author will be one of your all time favourites!

This was Canadian author – Steena Holmes for me.

When I came into contact with Steena I felt awful. I had never heard of her or anything she had written. To me this is a problem as I do believe so many Canadian authors are underrated and over looked.

I started to look into Steena’s work and realised very quickly how amazing each and every one of her novels sounded.

Soon after, Steena had let me know she was going to be in my area for a book signing at my absolute favourite book store Chapters Indigo! I didn’t have to think twice… I was there!

As soon as I walked up to her, she knew right away who I was and was so incredibly sweet! We talked forever and I felt like I was talking with a new great friend who also had a love of reading. I learnt so much more about her personally but also about her work!

Each of her novels has a piece of her within it whether it was a situation she had experienced first hand, her daughters helping her piece together a book, a novel based on her home town, etc. That made me fall in love with her writing before I had even read anything.

I picked up three of her novels during her signing and of course had to grab a couple extra copies of her most recent novel to share the love.

Finding Emma her very first novel. A heart-felt story about a women named Megan whose daughter Emma was abducted at the young age of three. Now 2 years later and Megan still sees her daughter in every blonde haired, blue-eyed little girl she sees. Megan knows that her daughter is still alive and is not willing to give up on finding her.

Megan’s desperation of finding Emma is taking its toll on her relation with her husband and her two older daughters.

*** This story is written in dual perspective, which I love. Megan’s side with her fight to find her daughter and the side from whom now have Emma.

I fell in love with each character in very different ways and one character in particular still glows in my heart to this day and will forever be a favourite!

But I am not willing to tell who! .. Sorry. You will have to read the story for yourself and I am sure you too will fall in love with them.

The Memory Child a heart breaking yet extremely warming story of an almost perfect couple fighting their own mental battles of knowing when its the best time to start a family while also keeping their careers strong. But to their surprise life has already made plans for them.

When Brian finds out his wife Diane is pregnant he is full of excitement, passion and won’t let Diane think anything other than positive thoughts when it comes to their unborn child. Although Diane is having a hard time coming to terms with the pregnancy.

Brian is forced to make a hard decision that will affect him and his career for the better but means he will be leaving his wife and unborn child in order to do so. This is where their love story takes a turn.

** Again The Memory Child is another story that I couldn’t recommend more. It gave me all the feels, even had tears welling up in my eyes feeling as if I was part of this journey myself. This book truly tugs at your heart-strings, and if you are a mother or have ever experienced the struggle conceiving and/or child-birth. Please pick The Memory Child up!.

The Forgotten Ones is Steena’s most recent novel. This dark story follows a girl named Elle who discovers the “fairy tales” her mother has been feeding her about their family history is not so magical after all.

Elle is a hard-working nurse, who comes into connection with a man on his death-bed who she finds out is her grandfather that she was lead to believe was dead all this time. The truth about his past and Elle’s mothers upbringing comes into light and Elle’s true strengths are put to test.

*** This book was so deep and dark, and shows that every family has a little something to hide, not one family is perfect.

Again one that is a must read.

All three of these books were 10 out of 5 stars for me! That is how much I loved them. I can’t wait to pick up each and every single one of Steena’s novels and devour them all the same. Steena’s  breath-taking writing will always have a home with me. If you have not had a moment to pick up something from her, this is the time.

The Journey Begins!

Thanks for joining me today!

Hello my fellow book worms!

I am new to this, so be patient.

I am a 31 year old YOUNG! (haha..) full time working, wife and mother of two amazing boys! My most favourite thing to do during my free time aside from spending time with my wonderful family is reading! (that is if I ever have free time..haha!)

Being an avid reader is absolutely amazing. Expanding your imagination and entering world after world with each and every book you pick-up. Except……it comes along with so many thoughts tumbling around in your head each and every day!. I have a bookstagram account which is great for sharing gorgeous photos of all the amazing books in the world. I have a BookTube channel which is great for sharing book hauls, TBR lists and wrap ups. But I needed an outlet to spill all my thoughts on page. I figured starting a book blog was the best way to do just this! While getting to share everything with others that may actually understand my crazy book addict thoughts!.

I am NOT great at writing…. (clearly why I am not an author) but I will do my absolute best to entertain! and I hope you choose to stick around.

My plan for this blog is book reviews, book subscription boxes, bookish items, bookish thoughts, bookstagram, BookTube, and all the book talk you can imagine.

If you are up to sticking around for all this crazy, wacky, fun. I would LOVE to have you!

-Nichole

P.S

I am always up for any suggestions you may have on what YOU would like to read about.
