Let’s start right off and talk about this cover! It is absolutely incredible!
Now I know the skin of a book isn’t the star of the show, the true treasure lies in the guts of the read but you can’t deny that a masterpiece on the outside isn’t the perfect eye candy every book worm adores.
When I opened the pages of Hunger Pangs I had no idea that this was Scott’s debut collection. I really should have done my research better, but honestly for this to be his first collection out into the world I am very impressed.
Scott’s stories are unique and raw. His writing is smooth and consumable. Usually when I read a collection there are a couple that really, really stand out or that you may enjoy more than others. This collection I had a hard time pin pointing my favorite. I enjoyed them all for different reasons! I use the saying “like children, you love them all just as much, only in different ways.” You can’t possibly pick a favourite.
Hunger Pangs is a collection worth getting lost in, transporting out of reality into these dark, bizarre, frightening worlds…. that is if you think you can handle it of course.
I can’t thank Scott enough for sending me an e-copy to read and review, obviously I will need to pick up a physical copy as soon as I can to add to my collection…..I mean….that COVER! But when I saw that Hunger Pangs was on audible I downloaded it right away knowing it would help me get to this review so much sooner, so I can also say the audiobook was done very well, worth checking out.
Hunger Pangs will leave a lasting, haunting effect!

4 out of 5 stars!
Such an imaginative story!
Otis, Pyridine and Orphie are some of the most odd, unusual and exciting characters I have met.
During their carriage ride through the underworld to save their family business they also meet some of the most unique characters, they speak with the most unique characters…. (and for Otis’s sake, even some animals).
The Goodbye Family and The Great Mountain is such an amusing, whimsical read. Perfect for all ages really but especially young readers! A way for them to explore their minds and explode their imaginations.
Lorin Morgan-Richards created this fast paced, thrilling Wild-West meets The Addam’s Family esk read. You will fall in love with the characters and the story will absolutely consume you. The chapter heading illustrations throughout are absolutely delightful and truly add to the story.
I can’t thank Lorin Morgan-Richards enough for sending me a copy to read and review. This will be one to go back and re-read and I also can’t wait to see what else Lorin Morgan-Richards has in-store for us!
Today’s bookish post is going to be a bit different. Normally when talking about an authors work I review the work itself. Today we will be reviewing the author himself!
A while back Rob Shepherd reached out to me asking if I would be willing to read some of his work. Of course I said yes and he was so kind to send over 5 e-copies, a good variety. Now Rob never once asked me to review any of what he sent over, he was just happy to have another reader interested in checking it out. BUT… I am a blogger, so of COURSE I am going to review it.
I read one peace closer to the end of 2019 and really enjoyed it, jump ahead into 2020 and I still had not finished the other 4 pieces. I knew this was not fair of me and I needed to work hard to get some reviews out for him. So…..in the month of April I went on a bit of a Rob Shepherd reading binge. While reading through I thought instead of doing an individual review of each read separately, why not review them and the author all together.
I have had the privilege of getting to know Rob over the last year or so and honestly he is so very laid back, chilled and easy going. He also loves getting to chat with his readers and just getting to know them in general.
Now Rob’s writing style may not be for everyone. He really loves those odd, eerie, gruesome, horror-esk type reads but I myself love them. Also a lot of Rob’s work is short stories or novellas but honestly they are packed FULL of creepy goodness! Each of the 5 stories I read from him got a 4 or 5 star out of 5 stars!
On to the books I read and my individual star rating for each.
I thoroughly enjoy Rob’s work! His imagination is so dark and unique. I can’t wait to get my hands on more and I feel if those unusual, chilling reads are your thing than you may also enjoy reading Rob’s stories.
Thank you so much Rob for sending these e-copies to me. I appreciate it more than you may know!
