Courting Mr.Lincoln by Louis Bayard

When Mary Todd meets Abraham Lincoln in Springfield in the winter of 1840, he is on no one’s short list to be president. A country lawyer living above a dry goods shop, he is lacking both money and manners, and his gift for oratory surprises those who meet him. Mary, a quick, self-possessed debutante with an interest in debates and elections, at first finds him an enigma. “I can only hope,” she tells his roommate, the handsome, charming Joshua Speed, “that his waters being so very still, they also run deep.”

It’s not long, though, before she sees the Lincoln that Speed knows: an amiable, profound man who, despite his awkwardness, has a gentle wit to match his genius, and who respects her keen political mind. But as her relationship with Lincoln deepens, she must confront his inseparable friendship with Speed, who has taught his roommate how to dance, dress, and navigate the polite society of Springfield.

Told in the alternating voices of Mary Todd and Joshua Speed, and inspired by historical events, Courting Mr. Lincoln creates a sympathetic and complex portrait of Mary unlike any that has come before; a moving portrayal of the deep and very real connection between the two men; and most of all, an evocation of the unformed man who would grow into one of the nation’s most beloved presidents. Louis Bayard, a master storyteller, delivers here a page-turning tale of love, longing, and forbidden possibilities

The Overdue Life of Amy Byler by Kelly Harms

Overworked and underappreciated, single mom Amy Byler needs a break. So when the guilt-ridden husband who abandoned her shows up and offers to take care of their kids for the summer, she accepts his offer and escapes rural Pennsylvania for New York City.

Usually grounded and mild mannered, Amy finally lets her hair down in the city that never sleeps. She discovers a life filled with culture, sophistication, and—with a little encouragement from her friends—a few blind dates. When one man in particular makes quick work of Amy’s heart, she risks losing herself completely in the unexpected escape, and as the summer comes to an end, Amy realizes too late that she must make an impossible decision: stay in this exciting new chapter of her life, or return to the life she left behind.

But before she can choose, a crisis forces the two worlds together, and Amy must stare down a future where she could lose both sides of herself, and every dream she’s ever nurtured, in the beat of a heart.

Hurricane Season by Nicole Melleby

For Fig’s dad, hurricane season brings the music.
For Fig, hurricane season brings the possibility of disaster.

Fig, a sixth grader, loves her dad and the home they share in a beach-side town. She does not love the long months of hurricane season. Her father, a once-renowned piano player, sometimes goes looking for the music in the middle of a storm. Hurricane months bring unpredictable good and bad days. More than anything, Fig wants to see the world through her father’s eyes, so she takes an art class to experience life as an artist does. Then Fig’s dad shows up at school, confused and looking for her. Not only does the class not bring Fig closer to understanding him, it brings social services to their door.

As the walls start to fall around her, Fig is sure it’s up to her alone to solve her father’s problems and protect her family’s privacy. But with the help of her best friend, a cute girl at the library, and a surprisingly kind new neighbour, Fig learns she isn’t as alone as she once thought . . . and begins to compose her own definition of family.

Nicole Melleby’s Hurricane Season is a radiant and tender novel about taking risks and facing danger, about friendship and art, and about growing up and coming out. And more than anything else, it is a story about love—both its limits and its incredible healing power.

4.5 Stars out of 5

Wow!…. Hot, steamy, erotic, sensual, seductive. There are not enough words for me to explain how hubbahubba the sex scenes are!

Eden knows how to write sexual moments that don’t become dry at any point! Not only that, the romance that ignites between them is so satisfying.

Brandon is such a dream boat! I only wish I looked like Piper and was living her life in this moment!

A very wise person told me once…“Book boyfriends do it better”. I have to agree!

Thank you so much Eden for sending me an e-copy of your saucy novel to review. Brandon will always be a dearly remembered book boyfriend!

All Men Are Assholes (…And All Women Are Crazy) by Jordan West

“𝔸 𝕃𝕖𝕤𝕤𝕠𝕟 𝕚𝕟 𝕙𝕠𝕨 𝕥𝕠 𝕗𝕚𝕟𝕕 𝕝𝕠𝕧𝕖 𝕨𝕙𝕖𝕟 𝕖𝕧𝕖𝕣𝕪𝕠𝕟𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕒𝕨𝕗𝕦𝕝”

Don’t let the title fool you! This book is so much more than just some comical dating advice.

Perhaps you currently have an awful dating life, are in a dying relationship or are past those days and just want to know you are not the only one that had to endure these moments in your love life.

From advice to research to even an asshole and crazy scale, you also get a walk through of Jordan’s own personal love life.

4.5 Stars out of 5

I love that this novel is not bias towards either sex! Us Women can be just as much of the problem as men, even if we don’t want to believe it.

All Men Are Assholes (… And All Women Are Crazy) is a heart wrenching, raw, intense read with a burst of humour throughout. Jordan truly has a way with words.

I found this book to be very relatable to the majority of my relationships in my younger years. But Jordan’s were on a much deeper scale then my own, some of the things Jordan had to endure is angering…. or perhaps that is just the crazy in me.

Truly a strong, impressive women to go through all and come out the other side laughing at her past and ready to share it with the world.

“𝕃𝕚𝕗𝕖 𝕚𝕤 𝕒 𝕗𝕚𝕔𝕜𝕝𝕖 𝕓𝕚𝕥𝕔𝕙.”

Thank you so much Jordan for sending me a copy of your immensely accurate read! I enjoyed it incredibly much. This truly is a read for everyone to enjoy

5 out of 5 stars!

Absolutely sensational!

This historical fiction is dazzling and devastating all in one. Pam’s writing is absolutely incredible and her dedicated research while creating this masterpiece is remarkable. Not to mention her transition back and forth from past to present throughout this novel is flawless!

I adored reading from the three different perspectives, and fell hard for the characters! Each has their own warming yet heart breaking story.

Grace’s determination, Eleanor’s passion and Marie’s strength!

The Lost Girls of Paris pulled me in and completely absorbed me. I just had to know what was going to happen next!

Another heart-wrenching, breathtaking read.

𝐿𝒶𝓈𝓉 𝓃𝒾𝑔𝒽𝓉 𝐼 𝒹𝓇𝑒𝒶𝓂𝓉 𝐼 𝓌𝑒𝓃𝓉 𝓉𝑜 𝑀𝒶𝓃𝒹𝑒𝓇𝓁𝑒𝓎 𝒶𝑔𝒶𝒾𝓃…

A young working class girl, off to the South of France with her Employer. Life is pretty bland, until she meets a considerably older gentleman. Recently widowed, yet genuinely handsome and wealthy!… Maxim de Winter.

Love quickly sparks between the couple and it is not long before Max sweeps her off her feet, quickly marrying and back to Max’s home, Manderley. Where soon the young bride finds that she may not know Max as well as she thought and memories of his first wife, Rebecca claim this home.

4 out of 5 stars!

Rebecca truly blew me away! Classics, aside from horror/mystery classics can be very hit and miss for me. I think it may be a bit of the instant love in most and the unusual idea of romance.

But this Gothic romance sucked me in and Daphne’s writing is absolutely brilliant!

Maxim was a very heinous, unpleasant man and his young, new bride was childish… just completely juvenile. Yet they truly made the perfect team as the story developed and were surely the perfect couple.

This story is twisted, dark and very unnatural, but you won’t be able to put it down.

I will absolutely be looking into more of Daphne’s novels, especially if it is anything as exquisite as Rebecca.

And of course thank you all for reading.

4.5 Stars out of 5

I couldn’t help myself. I had to copy the synopsis right from Amazon, my own description would not do it justice!

It took me WAY to long to finish reading this book and I am so ashamed!…

Now let me make it clear, it was not because it was a disappointing read in any way. I mean clearly you can see that, based on the rating I gave it.

This was such an exciting, stimulating, breathtaking read!

Between the fights, betrayal, bloodshed, trickery and some of the most unique characters I have ever followed in a novel, you are completely sucked into the world Mallory has created.

This world.. These characters will earn your affection and leave you wanting more.

Which is great! Since Mallory also has:

Renegade (set 6 years before Black Dawn)

418WYBv8ohL

and just released Queen To Ashes the sequel to Black Dawn on February 19, 2019

41rc9cls7zL

(Can we stop for a moment and just low key obsess over these covers!)

Oh and also, I am also so extremely proud to say…. Mallory is Canadian!

Thank you Mallory for sharing your masterpieces with us bookworms and for becoming one of my top favourite Canadian authors.

And of course thank you all for reading.

Down & Dirty (Men of Haven) by Rhenna Morgan

The Men of Haven: fierce passion, unyielding loyalty.

Especially when it comes to their women.

A powerful man

Axel McKee abandoned his musical career years ago in favor of becoming a power player on the music scene. His dreams of the spotlight are over—and he’s better off for it. Working with his Haven brothers and building their empire is enough for him.

One who commanded attention with nothing more than a look

And then came Lizzy. A dynamic, beautiful powerhouse of a performer unlike any he’s seen or heard before. Her presence leaps off stage and into the heart of anyone who watches her sing. Axel wants her. Wants to help her and collaborate with her… But more than anything, he wants to be with her.

And every ounce of his attention was locked on her

Two things are immediately obvious: Lizzy’s been burned before, and earning her trust will be Axel’s biggest challenge yet. If he can get this fierce, stubborn, talented woman to see the passion and care that he’s offering, he might get a chance at a new dream—sharing the spotlight with the woman he loves.

The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer

In 1942, Europe remains in the relentless grip of war. Just beyond the tents of the Russian refugee camp she calls home, a young woman speaks her wedding vows. It’s a decision that will alter her destiny…and it’s a lie that will remain buried until the next century.

Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now fifteen and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alina’s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears. Where Alina used to measure time between visits from her beloved, now she measures the spaces between hope and despair, waiting for word from Tomasz and avoiding the attentions of the soldiers who patrol her parents’ farm. But for now, even deafening silence is preferable to grief.

Slipping between Nazi-occupied Poland and the frenetic pace of modern life, Kelly Rimmer creates an emotional and finely wrought narrative that weaves together two women’s stories into a tapestry of perseverance, loyalty, love and honor. The Things We Cannot Say is an unshakable reminder of the devastation when truth is silenced…and how it can take a lifetime to find our voice before we learn to trust it.

Midnight at the Wandering Vineyard by Jamie Raintree

Published by Graydon House on March 26, 2019

Mallory Graham is returning home to the heat and vines of Southern California in search of the peace she can’t find in the city. Her parents’ vineyard is an escape for tourists, but full of mixed memories for Mallory. It may also be the one place she can find the forgiveness she seeks. But can things ever go back to the way they once were—in the days before that long, hot, heartbreaking summer?

Growing up, it was Mallory and Kelly. Kelly and Mallory. Nothing could come between them. That summer before college, bucket list in hand, they greeted every sunrise and chased every sunset. Tattoos—check. Sleeping under the stars—check.

But when Mallory met Sam, everything changed. Older, experienced and everything Mallory never knew she wanted, Sam was her first taste of love—and the one adventure Mallory didn’t want to share with Kelly. But Kelly had her own secrets, too, until the night tragedy struck and their perfect summer—and their friendship—unraveled.

Now, after ten years away, Mallory is home and determined to make amends. No more secrets, no more half-truths. As Kelly slowly lets her guard down, Mallory convinces her to complete their unfinished list of hopes and dreams.
