5 out of 5 stars!

YES! This is what I am talking about!

I don’t know about you but growing up I was ghost obsessed.ย  Late on a Friday or Saturday night my family and friends would gather, turn off all the lights, grab a flashlight and creep around the house looking to experience the perfect paranormal moment.

I now get to experience all that same fun with my two boys. It becomes on heck of a great game, on the regular here in our home.

So… what better than a middle-grade where kids are doing just that?!? and they have no idea what they are in for.

When Diana reached out to see if I would be willing to review one of the books from her Ghosters series, I was super excited and I knew exactly who I would be reading it with.

I’ll just put it out there…. my eldest son and I LOVED this read.

Ghosters was exhilarating!

The characters are so well done. Theresa is suffering the older sibling battle after a huge loss in the family and feels she needs to stay strong for her younger brother Joey. Yet she also feels her Dad doesn’t seem to love her as much. When truly she and Joey just have no idea exactly what is going on with their father and his own inner demons he is fighting. Than Joey is this sweet, innocent, easy going brother who looks up to his sister and is so happy to spend time with her. In comes Theresa’s new ghost obsessed friend Kerry to stir up the mix. What a perfect selection of characters!

Diana also kept this middle grade read so gripping by leaving the true reveal till the very, very end. Leaving you to devour this read, needing to know exactly what happens.

Ghosters will have you stir with emotions throughout. Yet in the end Diana pieces everything together perfecting, bringing the whole story together and releasing all of those emotions.

I must add as a mother reading this along side my eldest that I found it very refreshing how Diana not only brought up the topic of loss of a loved one(s) but also notes some mental health. She did it in such a gentle, tasteful way, not to overwhelm a middle-grade reader.

Extremely well done and very entertaining.

We have added the rest of the Ghosters series onto our wish list to pick up in the future.

Currently in the series:

#1: Ghosters #2: Revenge of the Library Ghost #3: Secrets of the Bloody Tower #4: Ghosters go Camping.

Also please note, you do not need to read the series in order. So take a peak, read through the synopsis and see which one will be your first victim!

Enjoy! Happy reading.

Thank you so much Diana for sending us an e-copy to read and review.

We can’t wait to dive into more.

10 out of 5 stars! (Yes it’s that good)

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!

The Moments Between is positively memorising!

Let me start by saying I have been an enormous fan of Natalie’s work for a couple years now. I have read nearly all of her published pieces and dare I say…I think this is her best yet. That comment alone says it all.

The Moments Between is an incredible concept and Natalie executed it perfectly. Truly gripping, yet notably warming. This is a novel you won’t want to put down but will also be terrified to see how it ends.

We’ve all experienced nightmares before but Claire’s nightmare goes beyond a sleepless night! Claire is constantly living in panic, desperate to find a way to keep her husband alive. This would be torment for anyone, let alone a mom of young kids. You will experience a explosion of multiple emotions throughout. One moment you will be in awe of the charming, incredibly relatable characters and the wonderful life they live. Next you will be holding your breath, pleading that everyone is safe.

If reading about this extraordinary family wasn’t enough, this story is packed full of strong underlining messages. For example; Claire and her sister are extremely different women, one is constantly infuriated by the other while also admiring her beauty. While the other is flat out jealous of the others life in a whole. This is where the message of “the grass is always greener on the other side” comes in. As they work through their differences it creates a stronger bond between the two that is so enjoyable. Claire also experiences such gut wrenching fears that leads her to ask a question that I am sure so many of us had wondered before “if God exists, why does he allow bad things to happen?”

I can’t help but feel that the positive moments throughout this read may be a tiny sneak peak into Natalie’s true life story.

Honestly I could go on and on with my thoughts of this book. You just need to read it! Perhaps this is the perfect read to end 2019 off with.

Thank you so much Natalie for sending me a e-copy to review. I cant help but devour everything you write. Can’t wait to see what you come up with next.

BRILLIANT!ย

Honestly, this review could stop right here! Simply………Brilliant.ย

Not only does Gold have some of the most unusual concepts for his novels but his writing is absolutely phenomenal.

Lost In The Clouds is such a thought provoking, profound read. Neville is faced with the hardest moment in his life. Having to sever all ties with the life you lived, saying goodbye to those you love and things that were near and dear to your heart is hard enough. Finding out not everything you thought you knew was honest. This only stirs the pot of emotions much deeper.

Through Neville’s desperate journey to find that closure and to be able to move on, not wanting to face a consequence worse than death itself wasn’t the only heart-full piece of this read. Neville learns about himself, he realises some negative moments in his life he can’t only point the finger at others… he is just as much to blame. This sat heavy with me! It made me think back on my own choices and whether I dealt with them in the purest of heart or out of anger.

One paragraph in this book really stuck with me and will forever have me thinking.

“Who am I to judge what gives us our identity? Many struggle to find meaning in a hundred lifetimes. If you were lucky enough to have a purpose day in and day out, well, perhaps you lived more than most. And if you don’t regret it, why should I regret it for you?”ย

I took so much from this incredibly powerful read. Be honest to yourselves, be honest to others, have the utmost respect for everyone and everything around you. Don’t ever take advantages of moments, hold your memories close. Life is meaningful and we only get one to live. Don’t have any regrets.

Thank you so much to R.K. Gold for sending Lost In The Clouds to me. R.K. did not ask me for a full review but I was so moved by it….I had to.

And of course thank you all for reading.

What a fun read! Such a great concept!

A book about books. Something all of us bookworms can relate to and enjoy!

I found Suggested Readingย refreshing. With a well written plot and a character driven story it was a light-hearted read that touches on some heavy topics.thumbnail_IMG_3864

Clara’s passion for reading and her love for books was admirable. By starting the locker library she shared this love with others and impacted their lives greatly. What Clara may not have know was how much she was going to grow from this herself and the incredible friends she was going to make.

So many hidden messages within this text as well. Don’t judge people by how they look, the amount of money they have or the people they hang around with. You never know what’s going on inside peoples heads, they may surprise you. Also… never give up! When you have a passion fight for your beliefs whether you are right or succeed it’s all worth it.

Dave’s attention to detail with each book mentioned throughout Suggested Reading was impressive. You can see his time and dedication while writing his masterpiece. This only added to an already enjoyable read.

Suggested Reading also fits well with the “cancelled culture” currently circulating today.

All in all I did enjoy this book and would recommend you giving it a go. Besides I am sure you want to know just how Clara pulled this off…don’t you?

Butterfly yellow is a heavy story about the awful kidnappings that happened during the Vietnam War and sits close to home for Thanhha Lai herself. She fled Vietnam during the war with her family and ended up in Alabama, USA.

Knowing the concept of Butterfly Yellow sat so close to her personal life story, right away I thought I was going to be raving about this read.

Although the story is heart wrenching I didn’t enjoy it near as much as I thought I would. Which honestly breaks my heart to say and makes me feel awful, especially being such a thumbnail_IMG_3740raw look into true moments from the past and touching on awful moments that still happen to this day in some countries.

Butterfly Yellow had huge potential to be an extremely powerful story.

The first 70-80 pages of this book started off amazing with Hang finally reaching the US to find her brother, who she believed to still be in danger. But as Hang met LeeRoy a wonderful young man willing to help Hang in her desperate travels. The story started to fall apart. I found it very choppy and as if details were left out. I was finding myself having a hard time following what was happening, almost as if the plot needed more context. There were also added moments of drama that I felt didn’t need to be in this already overwhelming sad story.

I have heard raving reviews on Thanhha Lai’s Inside Out & Back Again, which is written in verse. There were moments while reading Butterfly Yellow that I felt Lai was almost heading toward writingย  in that format. Maybe that would have brought this read to life for me….. I don’t know.

All this being said, Butterfly Yellow is not an awful novel and many would connect with it on a different level than I have.

I am not upset by any means that I read Butterfly Yellow. It brings attention to events that shouldn’t be ignored or forgotten and if history is an interest of yours at all, than I do suggest you give this one a go.

4 out of 5 stars

If you know anything about David Koepp or have read up on him. Koepp is an American screenwriter and director. Best known for his work on Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Panic Room and War of Worlds.

I could completely see Cold Storage being adapted into film. It absolutely read like a movie setting.

You start off with your flash back into 1987, where you are introduced to the organism and find out just how much destruction it can cause.

Flash forward into the modern day and in comes new characters that are completely in the dark and have no idea what exactly is in the sub-level of this building or the awful things that happened decades ago.

Until the story takes a harsh turn, bringing the experienced together with the inexperienced in a rush to save humanity.

The reason for me knocking 1 star from my rating was how slow the plot and character growth was, at least after the original impressive flash back in 1987. The next few chapters seem to drag on a bit. Also some content in my opinion felt like unneeded story filler. But I tell you, once you get through the slow gap in the first half of the book it really starts picking up.

thumbnail_IMG_3406Cold Storage becomes chilling. I felt I couldn’t put the book down until I knew exactly what happened and if the trio was successful.

The outcome was exactly what I was hoping for and that is not always the case when reading a book. This was very refreshing.

If you are a lover of scifi, horror, mystery, thriller. I think you will devour Cold Storage.

I would love to see Cold Storage on the big screen one day.

Thank you so much to HarperCollins Canada for sending this arc my way for review.

Middle Grade

Genre: Fantasy

5 out of 5 stars

Since Beds Are For Flowers is a middle grade read, I had the joy of getting to read this with my eldest son. We both absolutely loved this read and highly recommend it.

R.K. Gold is a indie author I met through BookTube. He has always been so inspirational and really has a way with words. When I heard he had started a middle grade series I knew I had to get my hands on it.

The middle grade world is absolutely saturated with fantasy. Making it extremely hard for an author to release something unique into the mix. Dare I say R.K. did just that! He amazed me with the world of Ganedyn.

Beds Are For Flowers is a beautiful story, with sensational characters that will take your breath away. The thought of being born into a bland, color-less world where each and everyday you are worried for your loved ones. Knowing, by facing your fears you may be able to set the pieces of the puzzle back together. Changing things for the best out come possible.

We were hooked! Eager to find out if Clarence, Jesse and Wakoba succeeded in their journey.

I often say that indie authors write some incredible gems. I can’t stress enough how important it is to support indie authors. Trust me, you may find your next top favourite read.

Be sure to check out this series by R.K. Gold!

And of course thank you all for reading.

5 out of 5 stars

My oldest son and I had a blast reading this first edition to the FrightVision series and both agree on the 5 stars!

The Cursed Coin brought me right back to my childhood. I loved Goosebumps, especially the show.

You know the innocent kids, weird things start happening, parents are almost completely oblivious to what’s happening around them. Only for a huge plot twist at the end, when the parents come to understand what their kids were trying to tell them… yet a little to late, as their kids seem to already have it under control. OR…. better yet…..the parents are in on it!

We did NOT want to put this book down.ย  … “Oh just one more chapter!”

Incredible story with amazing characters.

RJ and his sister have one of the best siblings relationships I have read in a story. RJ may be a scaredy cat but when Shelly starts losing her confidence or seems to be in any sort of danger, he works hard to over come his fears. I also enjoyed the love RJ clearly had for his father. Although his father may not be a large character throughout the story, seeing that close relationship was a great addition.

Can the ever growing, strong relationships help RJ pull through all the mayhem? I guess you will just have to read for yourself.

FrightVision is bringing the modern day fresh new spin on Goosebumps and we are living for it!

Thank you so much to FrightVision for sending book one our way to review. You have created two new crazy fans!

And of course thank you all for reading

4 out of 5 stars

At first I wobbled between a 3.5 stars and a 4.

In the end this read struck me in a way and I knew it deserved the 4… and I will tell you why.

Kimi Eisele had a fantastic concept and she executed it perfectly.

This was unlike any post apocalyptic novel I have read before. Please keep in mind I am use to the fast pace, disease wiping out the world, zombies, evil humans struggling to survive and willing to do anything needed to do so….

thumbnail_IMG_2812The Lightest Objects In The Universe was different. It was a bit of a Showing the power of love even in the darkest of times.

A perfect balance of both plot and character growth throughout this read.ย  The relationships that existed prior to this angry flu and the relationships that grew during the story were memorable. You meet so many different characters, each one unique in their own way.

That being said, while reading this you need to be on the ball. Kimi introduces so many different side characters, while bouncing back and forth between Carson, Beatrix and also some moment glimpses into their lives prior to this epidemic. If you miss an important moment or a character introduction it may confuse you. So pay attention!

If you are a lover of any post apocalyptic, dystopian, science fiction reads than give The Lightest Object In The Universe a go. It may be different then what you are use to but I don’t think it will disappoint.

3 out of 5 stars

Aspiring’s premise is extremely intriguing. The moment I read the synopsis I was interested.

Astrid’s writing is very crisp, clean and flows smoothly. Making this a pleasant, easy read.ย The characters are described perfectly, well rounded and with great back stories. The amount of plot vs dialog is distributed perfectly throughout.

All around, well written

Unfortunately the execution of this story fell short for me.

After reading the synopsis which starts with “A coven of witches plots to over throw a kingdom” I was expecting an action pact read, with a splash of romance…which was not the case.

I found this story was almost confused on whether it was meant to be a fantasy story full of evil witches with one to stand in their way, or a full on light romance.

It started off great with Elisabeth finding out she has powers herself, while her mother was fighting for her life on her unfortunate death bed. Elizabeth knowing she is untrained and needs to learn how to use and control her powers. This had me fully invested as a reader! Until the part where she is receiving the proper training is grazed over and the story becomes her and her crush showing and admitting their lover for each other.

I personally was looking for that witchy adventure and excitement that the synopsis promised… not receiving the true thrill until the end of the book.

Now, that being said. I know this is not a stand alone novel. There will be a sequel and I am sure not only the characters but the plot will thicken as it goes. But with such a strong synopsis tied to this first novel I was expecting more from this story. Which could put off any reader from picking up the second books, expecting the lack-luster of action to be carried on to the sequel.

Please keep in mind these are my own opinions. I am not dragging this lovely author by any means. As mentioned, her all around writing was absolutely fantastic.

Where something may not have been what I was expecting, doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy it yourself.

I don’t know how many times I have read or seen a negative book review, still held interested, picked up the book and absolutely adored it.

Aspiring may be your perfect cup of tea!

And of course thank you all for reading.
