What a fun read! Such a great concept!

A book about books. Something all of us bookworms can relate to and enjoy!

I found Suggested Readingย refreshing. With a well written plot and a character driven story it was a light-hearted read that touches on some heavy topics.thumbnail_IMG_3864

Clara’s passion for reading and her love for books was admirable. By starting the locker library she shared this love with others and impacted their lives greatly. What Clara may not have know was how much she was going to grow from this herself and the incredible friends she was going to make.

So many hidden messages within this text as well. Don’t judge people by how they look, the amount of money they have or the people they hang around with. You never know what’s going on inside peoples heads, they may surprise you. Also… never give up! When you have a passion fight for your beliefs whether you are right or succeed it’s all worth it.

Dave’s attention to detail with each book mentioned throughout Suggested Reading was impressive. You can see his time and dedication while writing his masterpiece. This only added to an already enjoyable read.

Suggested Reading also fits well with the “cancelled culture” currently circulating today.

All in all I did enjoy this book and would recommend you giving it a go. Besides I am sure you want to know just how Clara pulled this off…don’t you?

3 out of 5 stars

Butterfly yellow is a heavy story about the awful kidnappings that happened during the Vietnam War and sits close to home for Thanhha Lai herself. She fled Vietnam during the war with her family and ended up in Alabama, USA.

Knowing the concept of Butterfly Yellow sat so close to her personal life story, right away I thought I was going to be raving about this read.

Although the story is heart wrenching I didn’t enjoy it near as much as I thought I would. Which honestly breaks my heart to say and makes me feel awful, especially being such a thumbnail_IMG_3740raw look into true moments from the past and touching on awful moments that still happen to this day in some countries.

Butterfly Yellow had huge potential to be an extremely powerful story.

The first 70-80 pages of this book started off amazing with Hang finally reaching the US to find her brother, who she believed to still be in danger. But as Hang met LeeRoy a wonderful young man willing to help Hang in her desperate travels. The story started to fall apart. I found it very choppy and as if details were left out. I was finding myself having a hard time following what was happening, almost as if the plot needed more context. There were also added moments of drama that I felt didn’t need to be in this already overwhelming sad story.

I have heard raving reviews on Thanhha Lai’s Inside Out & Back Again, which is written in verse. There were moments while reading Butterfly Yellow that I felt Lai was almost heading toward writingย  in that format. Maybe that would have brought this read to life for me….. I don’t know.

All this being said, Butterfly Yellow is not an awful novel and many would connect with it on a different level than I have.

I am not upset by any means that I read Butterfly Yellow. It brings attention to events that shouldn’t be ignored or forgotten and if history is an interest of yours at all, than I do suggest you give this one a go.

If you know anything about David Koepp or have read up on him. Koepp is an American screenwriter and director. Best known for his work on Jurassic Park, Spider-Man, Panic Room and War of Worlds.

I could completely see Cold Storage being adapted into film. It absolutely read like a movie setting.

You start off with your flash back into 1987, where you are introduced to the organism and find out just how much destruction it can cause.

Flash forward into the modern day and in comes new characters that are completely in the dark and have no idea what exactly is in the sub-level of this building or the awful things that happened decades ago.

Until the story takes a harsh turn, bringing the experienced together with the inexperienced in a rush to save humanity.

The reason for me knocking 1 star from my rating was how slow the plot and character growth was, at least after the original impressive flash back in 1987. The next few chapters seem to drag on a bit. Also some content in my opinion felt like unneeded story filler. But I tell you, once you get through the slow gap in the first half of the book it really starts picking up.

thumbnail_IMG_3406Cold Storage becomes chilling. I felt I couldn’t put the book down until I knew exactly what happened and if the trio was successful.

The outcome was exactly what I was hoping for and that is not always the case when reading a book. This was very refreshing.

If you are a lover of scifi, horror, mystery, thriller. I think you will devour Cold Storage.

I would love to see Cold Storage on the big screen one day.

4 out of 5 stars

I was hooked from the very first sentence!

I have heard so many amazing things about Gilly’s writing.ย Personally this was my first read by her. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will for sure be check out more of her work in the near future.

Gilly had a fascinating concept, executed it perfectly and brought it to life.

thumbnail_IMG_3295Both the plot and character growth was brilliant throughout. Gilly knows exactly how to set an eerie vibe while keeping the characters completely relate-able. The moment I figured I knew exactly what was happening and who was to blame there was a shift causing me to question all of my original thoughts.

I found The Nanny extremely consumable, itching to know who the criminal was.

Now you may be wondering how I could love it so much but only have given it a 4 out of 5 stars. The Nanny was written from multiple perspectives and although I love reading novels written in this form. Moments within someones story line it would jump back and forth between the current time and the past, with a choppy transition. Not wanting to be confused, this caused me to go back and re-read a few times. Or I would keep reading in hopes that things would start to piece together, which of course it did and I was not disappointed.

A psychological thriller at its best!

“Vividly rendered and inspired by true events”.

5 out of 5 stars!

Absolutely sensational!

This historical fiction is dazzling and devastating all in one. Pam’s writing is absolutely incredible and her dedicated research while creating this masterpiece is remarkable. Not to mention her transition back and forth from past to present throughout this novel is flawless!

I adored reading from the three different perspectives, and fell hard for the characters! Each has their own warming yet heart breaking story.

Grace’s determination, Eleanor’s passion and Marie’s strength!

The Lost Girls of Paris pulled me in and completely absorbed me. I just had to know what was going to happen next!

Another heart-wrenching, breathtaking read.

And of course thank you all for reading

Down & Dirty (Men of Haven) by Rhenna Morgan

The Men of Haven: fierce passion, unyielding loyalty.

Especially when it comes to their women.

A powerful man

Axel McKee abandoned his musical career years ago in favor of becoming a power player on the music scene. His dreams of the spotlight are overโ€”and heโ€™s better off for it. Working with his Haven brothers and building their empire is enough for him.

One who commanded attention with nothing more than a look

And then came Lizzy. A dynamic, beautiful powerhouse of a performer unlike any heโ€™s seen or heard before. Her presence leaps off stage and into the heart of anyone who watches her sing. Axel wants her. Wants to help her and collaborate with herโ€ฆ But more than anything, he wants to be with her.

And every ounce of his attention was locked on her

Two things are immediately obvious: Lizzyโ€™s been burned before, and earning her trust will be Axelโ€™s biggest challenge yet. If he can get this fierce, stubborn, talented woman to see the passion and care that heโ€™s offering, he might get a chance at a new dreamโ€”sharing the spotlight with the woman he loves.

The Things We Cannot Say by Kelly Rimmer

In 1942, Europe remains in the relentless grip of war. Just beyond the tents of the Russian refugee camp she calls home, a young woman speaks her wedding vows. Itโ€™s a decision that will alter her destinyโ€ฆand itโ€™s a lie that will remain buried until the next century.

Since she was nine years old, Alina Dziak knew she would marry her best friend, Tomasz. Now fifteen and engaged, Alina is unconcerned by reports of Nazi soldiers at the Polish border, believing her neighbors that they pose no real threat, and dreams instead of the day Tomasz returns from college in Warsaw so they can be married. But little by little, injustice by brutal injustice, the Nazi occupation takes hold, and Alinaโ€™s tiny rural village, its families, are divided by fear and hate. Then, as the fabric of their lives is slowly picked apart, Tomasz disappears. Where Alina used to measure time between visits from her beloved, now she measures the spaces between hope and despair, waiting for word from Tomasz and avoiding the attentions of the soldiers who patrol her parentsโ€™ farm. But for now, even deafening silence is preferable to grief.

Slipping between Nazi-occupied Poland and the frenetic pace of modern life, Kelly Rimmer creates an emotional and finely wrought narrative that weaves together two womenโ€™s stories into a tapestry of perseverance, loyalty, love and honor.ย The Things We Cannot Sayย is an unshakable reminder of the devastation when truth is silencedโ€ฆand how it can take a lifetime to find our voice before we learn to trust it.

Midnight at the Wandering Vineyard by Jamie Raintree

Published by Graydon House on March 26, 2019

Mallory Graham is returning home to the heat and vines of Southern California in search of the peace she canโ€™t find in the city. Her parentsโ€™ vineyard is an escape for tourists, but full of mixed memories for Mallory. It may also be the one place she can find the forgiveness she seeks. But can things ever go back to the way they once wereโ€”in the days before that long, hot, heartbreaking summer?

Growing up, it was Mallory and Kelly. Kelly and Mallory. Nothing could come between them. That summer before college, bucket list in hand, they greeted every sunrise and chased every sunset. Tattoosโ€”check. Sleeping under the starsโ€”check.

But when Mallory met Sam, everything changed. Older, experienced and everything Mallory never knew she wanted, Sam was her first taste of loveโ€”and the one adventure Mallory didnโ€™t want to share with Kelly. But Kelly had her own secrets, too, until the night tragedy struck and their perfect summerโ€”and their friendshipโ€”unraveled.

Now, after ten years away, Mallory is home and determined to make amends. No more secrets, no more half-truths. As Kelly slowly lets her guard down, Mallory convinces her to complete their unfinished list of hopes and dreams. But Malloryโ€™s not the only one back in town, and when Sam reappears, Mallory risks making all the same mistakesโ€”and maybe a few new onesโ€”to try to heal that which was broken.

Slow Ride by Lori Foster

Published by HQN Books on March 12, 2019

You canโ€™t put the brakes on loveโ€ฆ

Ronnie Ashford needs a distraction. In the morning, she has to offer arrogant, conventional Jack Crews a job and convince him not to take it. She doesnโ€™t need anyoneโ€™s help, thank you very much. But tonight is all about the tall, sexy stranger who just walked in the barโ€”and all the delicious trouble they could get into together. Too bad just as things are heating up between them, he whispers the three little words that destroy everything: โ€œIโ€™m Jack Crews.โ€

Jack is determined to connect with fiery Ronnieโ€”in bed and out of itโ€”but her terms are clear. If he takes the job, helping her acquire prized artifacts for her mysterious bosses, anything between them is strictly off-limits. Somehow he has to convince a woman whoโ€™s never felt like she belonged that sheโ€™s found her placeโ€”with him. And with the danger sparking hotter than the fire between them, itโ€™s going to be one unforgettable tripโ€ฆ
