5 out of 5 stars!

YES! This is what I am talking about!

I don’t know about you but growing up I was ghost obsessed.  Late on a Friday or Saturday night my family and friends would gather, turn off all the lights, grab a flashlight and creep around the house looking to experience the perfect paranormal moment.

I now get to experience all that same fun with my two boys. It becomes on heck of a great game, on the regular here in our home.

So… what better than a middle-grade where kids are doing just that?!? and they have no idea what they are in for.

When Diana reached out to see if I would be willing to review one of the books from her Ghosters series, I was super excited and I knew exactly who I would be reading it with.

I’ll just put it out there…. my eldest son and I LOVED this read.

Ghosters was exhilarating!

The characters are so well done. Theresa is suffering the older sibling battle after a huge loss in the family and feels she needs to stay strong for her younger brother Joey. Yet she also feels her Dad doesn’t seem to love her as much. When truly she and Joey just have no idea exactly what is going on with their father and his own inner demons he is fighting. Than Joey is this sweet, innocent, easy going brother who looks up to his sister and is so happy to spend time with her. In comes Theresa’s new ghost obsessed friend Kerry to stir up the mix. What a perfect selection of characters!

Diana also kept this middle grade read so gripping by leaving the true reveal till the very, very end. Leaving you to devour this read, needing to know exactly what happens.

Ghosters will have you stir with emotions throughout. Yet in the end Diana pieces everything together perfecting, bringing the whole story together and releasing all of those emotions.

I must add as a mother reading this along side my eldest that I found it very refreshing how Diana not only brought up the topic of loss of a loved one(s) but also notes some mental health. She did it in such a gentle, tasteful way, not to overwhelm a middle-grade reader.

Extremely well done and very entertaining.

We have added the rest of the Ghosters series onto our wish list to pick up in the future.

Currently in the series:

#1: Ghosters #2: Revenge of the Library Ghost #3: Secrets of the Bloody Tower #4: Ghosters go Camping.

Also please note, you do not need to read the series in order. So take a peak, read through the synopsis and see which one will be your first victim!

Enjoy! Happy reading.

Thank you so much Diana for sending us an e-copy to read and review.

We can’t wait to dive into more.

Some of them just want to skate and dance the night away to the pounding disco music. Some want to pull a few pranks and have a few laughs. For others, like Dan Parsons, tonight is a chance to move on and forget about his ex-girlfriend, maybe even flirt with Denise, that cute girl behind the snack counter. It seems like nothing can go wrong. But there’s a massive blizzard raging outside, thick snow and ice are piling up against all the doors. There are those rumors that Rollerville was built over part of the old graveyard next door, and someone out there is watching. Also, a strange homeless man in the parking lot says that tonight will be the start of the so-called “Year of Blood.”A night of skating and New Year’s fun is about to turn into a night of violence and bloody mayhem in Disco Deathtrap.

A safe night turns to be a complete BLOODBATH!

Roubique has done it again! He has to be one of my all time favourite 80’s slasher authors.

Cameron has this way of creating these lively characters, memorable characters, puts them in this overwhelmingly terrifying situation. Some may give up, others will fight till the very end. Meanwhile the reader sits there biting their nails…. waiting to see who survives.

Like most 80’s slasher films you think you know who’s done it!….. But with Roubique’s evil masterpieces… you end up being so very, very wrong. Not only are you shocked on who it was, the murderers motives are gripping their backstories are so detailed. Cameron’s writing in itself is so extremely detailed. Be warned, these reads are not for squeamish people.

In Disco Deathtrap no one is safe! Only one way to find out who survives….

download (1)Ronnie has the perfect summer job at the Indian Hill Golf Course. All day he gets to ride around on mowers and golf carts, check out the beautiful drink cart girls, joke around with his best friend Mark, and get plenty of fresh air and sunlight. That all changes when a huge late spring hailstorm blows in one night, leaving the golf course in shambles. As they clean up all the limbs and downed trees, Ronnie and Mark learn about the Native American Kikawa tribe that was brutally massacred at the top of the hill near the seventeenth green, and the evil medicine man known as Chief Tomahawk who supposedly put a curse on the land. It seems that the curse may prove to be real as the golf course is dogged with bad luck, and a dark figure wearing a wooden Chief’s mask and a black-feathered headdress is watching them from the shadows. Now, in preparation for the biggest golf tournament of the year, Ronnie and the maintenance crew have to come in and work through the night. They are about to find out that Chief Tomahawk has returned, and he wants revenge for his slaughtered people.

The perfect summer job!… Or so Ronnie thought

Nightmares can hide anywhere… you never know when they will strike, perhaps for an awful revenge!

Golf Curse was such a wild ride! Indian Hill Golf Course really does sound like the perfect summer job, that is until the stories of the land being cursed starts to add up. Enough to terrify the believers anyhow… maybe not so much for the non-believers.

Again the detail in Roubique’s novels astound me. Each character is perfectly placed with a good amount of a background story, helping you decide who the trouble makers are and who the goody too-shoes are. I don’t know about you but I find myself already planning out who may be the first to go simply based on their personalities. Than comes in this whole story behind Indian Hill Golf Course and why they say it’s cursed.

They do say write what you know, which is exactly what Roubique has done. Having the knowledge from working at a golf course himself and man has it worked out for him.

Cameron’s work will keep your heart pounding. Be prepared!

An author I highly recommend across the board. Oh and I can’t forget! His mind blowing covers are his own incredible paintings.

Perfection! An anthology at its best!

Autumncrow is packed full of eerie goodness. Each story is so incredibly unique, some with a sweet underlining story that turns dark… others with a down right horrifying feeling throughout.

Chaney has created a bone chilling setting with some of the best characters. Each story will sink its teeth into you.

I couldn’t put Autumncrow down. Something about Cameron’s writing… I was completely immersed in this fictional town. One of the best parts was none of these stories were predictable, each had such an element of surprise.

I don’t think I could even tell you if I had a favourite, they were all so vivid and intense. Maybe my only negative to say is….. I just wanted more.

Cameron has impressed me yet again. I can not wait to see what he comes up with next.

My oldest son and I had a blast reading this first edition to the FrightVision series and both agree on the 5 stars!

The Cursed Coin brought me right back to my childhood. I loved Goosebumps, especially the show.

You know the innocent kids, weird things start happening, parents are almost completely oblivious to what’s happening around them. Only for a huge plot twist at the end, when the parents come to understand what their kids were trying to tell them… yet a little to late, as their kids seem to already have it under control. OR…. better yet…..the parents are in on it!

We did NOT want to put this book down.  … “Oh just one more chapter!”

Incredible story with amazing characters.

RJ and his sister have one of the best siblings relationships I have read in a story. RJ may be a scaredy cat but when Shelly starts losing her confidence or seems to be in any sort of danger, he works hard to over come his fears. I also enjoyed the love RJ clearly had for his father. Although his father may not be a large character throughout the story, seeing that close relationship was a great addition.

Can the ever growing, strong relationships help RJ pull through all the mayhem? I guess you will just have to read for yourself.

FrightVision is bringing the modern day fresh new spin on Goosebumps and we are living for it!

Thank you so much to FrightVision for sending book one our way to review. You have created two new crazy fans!

4 out of 5 stars

At first I wobbled between a 3.5 stars and a 4.

In the end this read struck me in a way and I knew it deserved the 4… and I will tell you why.

Kimi Eisele had a fantastic concept and she executed it perfectly.

This was unlike any post apocalyptic novel I have read before. Please keep in mind I am use to the fast pace, disease wiping out the world, zombies, evil humans struggling to survive and willing to do anything needed to do so….

thumbnail_IMG_2812The Lightest Objects In The Universe was different. It was a bit of a Showing the power of love even in the darkest of times.

A perfect balance of both plot and character growth throughout this read.  The relationships that existed prior to this angry flu and the relationships that grew during the story were memorable. You meet so many different characters, each one unique in their own way.

That being said, while reading this you need to be on the ball. Kimi introduces so many different side characters, while bouncing back and forth between Carson, Beatrix and also some moment glimpses into their lives prior to this epidemic. If you miss an important moment or a character introduction it may confuse you. So pay attention!

If you are a lover of any post apocalyptic, dystopian, science fiction reads than give The Lightest Object In The Universe a go. It may be different then what you are use to but I don’t think it will disappoint.

Starting Red I immediately started to feel my anxiety raise. Abigail gave me such an over whelming feeling of unease. That feeling quickly increased to panic and terror. When reading you can’t just simply cover your eyes during a scary part like you can during a movie. I found myself terrified to go on but yet needing to know how it ends.

Red kept me on the edge of me set and my heart pounding so hard, as if it was trying to leap right out of my chest.

Red certainly packs a haunting punch and will leave you completely filled with jitters. How it is even possible to deliver this much horror in a merely 51 pages is astounding!

Kelly’s writing will inject your brain with all sorts of new fears!

If your love is psychological thrillers, Kelly will easily become a new favourite.

A perfect read for around the Halloween season especially, if you are into that seasonal reading.

Enjoy!

I know I am late to the game with this review. I had EVERY intention on getting to this HUGELY anticipated read of mine before Halloween. We all know how that goes, right? Always a plan, but there is always more and more books to read.

Ahhh…. living the life of a book nerd!… (It’s AMAZING)

I finished this book last night and LOVED it! 5 out of 5 stars.

There is so much contradiction with this read and I personally don’t understand it. Reading part one “Hocus Pocus” brought me right back to the 90’s. I could see the movie playing through my head while reading it. It was everything I could hope for.

Now, The Sequel was just as brilliant. I love how the lead up to the sequel was incorporated into Hocus Pocus itself. It fit perfectly and made the anticipation for part two build and build.

I was sceptical at first, of course. The beloved characters from the movie are everything! and I was not sure if the book would live up to that.

Prove me wrong, again! I loved the characters just as much, both old and new.

I recommend this book to everyone! Hocus Pocus lovers and all.

Ohhh!… And only for the ending to give a glimpse that there may be more to come! So exciting.

Thanks for reading! I love having you hear.

Pretty Wicked by Kelly Charron

Straight A student, absolutely gorgeous, popular, cheerleader with an awesome group of friends and a well-respected homicide detective as a father.

Sounds ideal right?

Ryann is the high school student every teenage girl looks up to, or even dreams of being.

Then comes the dark secrets. Following a very disturbed and traumatised mind inside and out.

Ryann struggles with living under her sisters shadow and feeling as if her sister is the superior daughter in the family. Ryann is always trying to find ways to win her fathers approval, yet always failing. Only her actions to try to gain this approval, may be going in the wrong direction.

Lock your doors, lock your windows. Careful, she may seem innocent and harmless. But truth be told manipulation is Ryann’s specialty which may end in a grave mistake for anyone who crosses her path.

***

5 out of 5 stars!!!

This book!!! Ahh…I honestly don’t even know where to start.

Kelly killed it with this book! (No pun intended! Ha..ha)

Following Ryann and what she believes to be her victory’s and triumphs feels like your following in the shoes of a true sociopath’s mind while screaming to get out!

Kelly’s writing is so incredibly vivid, so disturbing it feels like so much more than just a novel. Almost as if you’re witnessing it happening right before your eyes and there is nothing you can do about it.

No matter how dark the story gets. I craved more and more. Wanting to see where Ryann’s next step would take her.

And let’s not forget reading this before bed…you won’t be doing much sleeping. I’ll tell you that much. I even find myself looking over my shoulder or flipping on every light in the house on my way to a room. And I never even thought to check inside every closet! … I know what I’ll be doing tonight.

Perfect read for this time of year. Pretty Wicked will always haunt your thoughts.

That’s when you know the author accomplished everything, when it lingers in your mind and will never be forgotten.

Canadian Book Subscription Boxes

Book Subscription Boxes — Are AMAZING!

Who doesn’t LOVE a book subscription box. They are HUGELY popular among us book nerds and so they should be!.

For some countries it can get frustrating. It could be that the company doesn’t ship to your area, taking the exchange rate into consideration, crazy shipping costs, they use their local vendors making it hard to purchase replacements and/or more items diretly from the vendor. Which also sucks for the vendor, then we can’t support them seperatly.

None of these problems are really in control of the company itself. They can’t help shipping locations, shipping costs, exchange rates and when it comes to their vendors they need to do whats best for their box and the majority of their subscribers.

Really it comes down to research, what works best for you! Or sometimes you just need to purchase from a few different companies and see what fits. I mean nothing wrong with that!… right? gives you an excuse to buy buy buy! ha..ha.

So today I am here to share a couple of my favorite CANADIAN book subscription boxes. One is fairly new and the other is brand new. Both well worth checking out!. You will fall in love, I promise you!.

VIBookcrate: Ships to Canada only

Boxes: Monthly JR subscription boxes for ages 8-12: (or any age in my eyes…. but I am just a big kid). They also have a seasonal box for us oldies!

Monthly JR subscription boxes for ages 8-12: $25/month + shipping

Each month your reader will receive:

VIBookcrate is run out of British Columbia by the lovely Kristen, she along with her amazing daughter and awesome son curate these exciting JR subscription boxes that every kid will love!. This is a must for anyone that has a child in their life that has the love of reading emanating in them!. Or if they don’t,  pick this up as a gift for them it just may spark something in them to read. My son loves to read and when he gets into a good book it captivates him but it is not his go to activity (video games are!). With these boxes it has really been drawing him towards reading more often!

Then if Kristen wasn’t busy enough she also curates the seasonal box. I had to pick one up for myself when I saw how awesome my sons first JR box was. I purchased the  September’s “Fall Cozy” box and it was stunning!. It was so well put together! AND it was all Canadian vendors. So if I want to buy more of an item, replace a consumable, or just support the vendor directly! I can and without being worried if they ship to my country, or crazy shipping costs and exchange rates! How cool is that? Besides Kristen and her family are so adorable and sweet you cant help but love them!
