4 out of 5 stars!

I love dystopian reads and Eyes of A Runner did not disappoint!

Eyes of A Runner is this dark world controlled by this over powered, corrupted Government and one tough, resilient young lady eager to take matters into her own hands!

Skyler created this incredible world with such relatable characters. All while incorporating past and current world problems (with his own spin of course). The underlying messages throughout this read are extremely powerful. The realism that parts of this world Skyler has created could potentially become our world or darn close to our world is whats truly terrifying.

Skylers’s writing is wonderful and full of vivid description. There is this one line that really stood out for me “The com-link was suddenly flooded with the sounds of gum popping before the women on the other end chimed in”. I couldn’t only picture this scene playing out in my mind but I could hear it.

Although this is a heavy story Skyler made sure to splash in some humour helping to break the story up and add in some well needed goofy, happy moments.

Skyler’s characters are phenomenal! Main characters stand out but when the supporting characters are just as strong, this really captivates me as a reader. Sarina is stubborn and she wants to change the world but when faced with a tough situation her passion to take charge herself completely takes over, leaving her with absolutely no disregard on how her actions may danger those around her.

Annelise is tough and extremely direct. She has no problem putting Sarina in her place and telling her straight up how it is. (She also has one of my all time favourite lines in the book, you will just have to read it and see).

Daniel is mysterious, flat out dangerous yet you can see his kind heart. He may be one of my favourite characters… I’m not sure just yet.

Honestly, I just can’t wait to read more in this world and to learn more about these characters. Oh and before I go, I have to tell you some of these characters had under gone some extensive alterations by the UDA and have now become some type of “super soldier”….. yeah you heard me right!

Point is I say people should be definitely picking up Eyes of A Runner and giving it a go.

Thank you so much Skyler for sending me a copy to read and review, I look forward to book two!

4 out of 5 stars!

Take a look at the cover! If that doesnโ€™t pull you in enough the moment you read the synopsis you will be hooked.

I have been craving sci-fi recently and Magna-Blade was exactly what I needed. Even more of a treat when I found out it was set in a well known city in Canada!

People have survived a life changing war with some of the most dangerous weapons around – Magna-Blades. But no-ones safe just yet!….Someone knows more is coming and they are working tirelessly to stop it! Questionโ€™s are …Will they succeed?…Can they do it alone, or will they need help?

Evan has created this revolutionary setting! You still have your high, middle and lower class, people are suffering, hunger, drugs and crime are still present and a form of law enforcement is in place. It reads as if you are in today’s setting with a futuristic twist. This was a huge yes for me! I enjoy stepping out of the real world while reading but really appreciate when there is still be a relate-able feel to it. Helps to really grasp the idea and makes for an engaging read!

The characters are perfectly placed in this world. I try very hard not give any spoilers away while reviewing so I wonโ€™t give any names or details. But I will say I really connected with a few of the stronger, main characters. When they were faced with hardships or tough situations it hit hard! Evan’s characters are extremely memorable. I thoroughly enjoy a read where there is a perfect balance between the story line and the characters and I found that was exactly what Magna-Blade did. The perfect amount of detail throughout.

Now you may be wondering why I gave this read a 4 stars when I obviously enjoyed it so much. The one reason I removed a star from my rating is…. the beginning of the story is very fast paced. Almost as something you would see in a immediate scene at the beginning of a movie, to get you quickly up to date on whatโ€™s going down. Although this is fine and a lot of reads do this to give the reader some details before they really dive into the story. What got me was there were parts that had me lost or confused. I felt like I was missing a bit of the story that was critical to understanding things as you went on, perhaps details that are important and were glazed over a bit too quickly. Donโ€™t get me wrong! As you go you will understand what is happening and you will get a glimpse of the past. I just feel some bits could have been touched on more.

All of this being said. I obviously really enjoyed this read and gave it a high rating. What makes me very excited about how this read ended off is I felt as if the story was left a bit open but also with enough conclusion at the same time. Which I really appreciate because I donโ€™t feel like I am needing more…. yet if a sequel came of this I most definitely would be jumping at the chance to get my hands on it!

Of course I would recommend this read especially if you are a sci-fi fan. You can never go wrong with such a strong, vivid world like this!

“THE CONCLUSION TO NEAL SHUSTERMAN’S BREATHTAKING BESTSELLING TRILOGY IS IN YOUR HANDS….PROTECT IT”

4 out of 5 stars

It’s always hard to review the next book in a trilogy or series without giving spoilers away.

The Toll is a book that had so many readers itching to get their hands on. Needing answers, wanting to find out exactly want happens. Thanks to Simon and Schuster Canada I received a surprise arc copy right on release day.

I have seen such a mix of reviews for this conclusion on such a hyped young adult trilogy and I am here to say I am on the positive side of these reviews.

Neal Shusterman created this incredible unique world, with such meaningful characters, a powerful underlining story and lets not forget his incredible writing.

The Toll only added to this creation. Not only does the reader receive closure on so many open moments lingering from Scythe and Thunderhead but the story adds even more twists and turns keeping you committed to the end.

The Toll does surpass 600 pages making this a longer read than your average 300-350 page novel. I may say my only small negative on this read was the filler. There were times when I did find my mind drifting and it seemed to be during those moments. Parts that aren’t necessarily crucial to the plot or characters. Although; when I pick up a larger sized book I expect there to be some filler. The author has taken all this time to create this fantastic world and they want to be sure they are showing the reader each and every corner of it.

All in all I really did enjoy this read and I look forward to what Neal has in store next.

“It is our nature… to surpass nature.”

Thank you again to Simon & Schuster Canada for sending this arc my way for review.

4 out of 5 stars

At first I wobbled between a 3.5 stars and a 4.

In the end this read struck me in a way and I knew it deserved the 4… and I will tell you why.

Kimi Eisele had a fantastic concept and she executed it perfectly.

This was unlike any post apocalyptic novel I have read before. Please keep in mind I am use to the fast pace, disease wiping out the world, zombies, evil humans struggling to survive and willing to do anything needed to do so….

thumbnail_IMG_2812The Lightest Objects In The Universe was different. It was a bit of a Showing the power of love even in the darkest of times.

A perfect balance of both plot and character growth throughout this read.ย  The relationships that existed prior to this angry flu and the relationships that grew during the story were memorable. You meet so many different characters, each one unique in their own way.

That being said, while reading this you need to be on the ball. Kimi introduces so many different side characters, while bouncing back and forth between Carson, Beatrix and also some moment glimpses into their lives prior to this epidemic. If you miss an important moment or a character introduction it may confuse you. So pay attention!

If you are a lover of any post apocalyptic, dystopian, science fiction reads than give The Lightest Object In The Universe a go. It may be different then what you are use to but I don’t think it will disappoint.
