Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant!

The Moments Between is positively memorising!

Let me start by saying I have been an enormous fan of Natalie’s work for a couple years now. I have read nearly all of her published pieces and dare I say…I think this is her best yet. That comment alone says it all.

The Moments Between is an incredible concept and Natalie executed it perfectly. Truly gripping, yet notably warming. This is a novel you won’t want to put down but will also be terrified to see how it ends.

We’ve all experienced nightmares before but Claire’s nightmare goes beyond a sleepless night! Claire is constantly living in panic, desperate to find a way to keep her husband alive. This would be torment for anyone, let alone a mom of young kids. You will experience a explosion of multiple emotions throughout. One moment you will be in awe of the charming, incredibly relatable characters and the wonderful life they live. Next you will be holding your breath, pleading that everyone is safe.

If reading about this extraordinary family wasn’t enough, this story is packed full of strong underlining messages. For example; Claire and her sister are extremely different women, one is constantly infuriated by the other while also admiring her beauty. While the other is flat out jealous of the others life in a whole. This is where the message of “the grass is always greener on the other side” comes in. As they work through their differences it creates a stronger bond between the two that is so enjoyable. Claire also experiences such gut wrenching fears that leads her to ask a question that I am sure so many of us had wondered before “if God exists, why does he allow bad things to happen?”

I can’t help but feel that the positive moments throughout this read may be a tiny sneak peak into Natalie’s true life story.

Honestly I could go on and on with my thoughts of this book. You just need to read it! Perhaps this is the perfect read to end 2019 off with.

A psychological thriller at its best!

Your Move is intense.

It will have you on the end of your seat and your heart pumping.

Michelle blew me away with her writing style, she did so many things right. Not only did she dedicate the perfect amount of time to the plot, really building the perfect layout for the story line but Your Move is also extremely character driven. It’s not easy to get that perfect delicate balance of both worlds but Michelle nailed it.

Your Move will keep you completely engrossed throughout the whole read. Just as you are getting comfortable and really feel you know where the story is going, Michelle throws you for a complete spiral.

Claire will experience memories of her past or the story may jump from present to the future, yet you don’t get a full view into Claire’s history and why she’s hiding. You get that perfect tidbit here and there… Just enough to keep you gripping on… wanting more.

I admired Claire’s strength! I also adored some of the relationships that started throughout this novel, so heart warming and a large piece of the story you will want to cling onto.

Your Move is everything I could ask for in a psychological thriller. It will really mess with your mind. Be prepared!

BRILLIANT!

Honestly, this review could stop right here! Simply………Brilliant.

Not only does Gold have some of the most unusual concepts for his novels but his writing is absolutely phenomenal.

Lost In The Clouds is such a thought provoking, profound read. Neville is faced with the hardest moment in his life. Having to sever all ties with the life you lived, saying goodbye to those you love and things that were near and dear to your heart is hard enough. Finding out not everything you thought you knew was honest. This only stirs the pot of emotions much deeper.

Through Neville’s desperate journey to find that closure and to be able to move on, not wanting to face a consequence worse than death itself wasn’t the only heart-full piece of this read. Neville learns about himself, he realises some negative moments in his life he can’t only point the finger at others… he is just as much to blame. This sat heavy with me! It made me think back on my own choices and whether I dealt with them in the purest of heart or out of anger.

One paragraph in this book really stuck with me and will forever have me thinking.

“Who am I to judge what gives us our identity? Many struggle to find meaning in a hundred lifetimes. If you were lucky enough to have a purpose day in and day out, well, perhaps you lived more than most. And if you don’t regret it, why should I regret it for you?”

I took so much from this incredibly powerful read. Be honest to yourselves, be honest to others, have the utmost respect for everyone and everything around you. Don’t ever take advantages of moments, hold your memories close. Life is meaningful and we only get one to live. Don’t have any regrets.

Butterfly yellow is a heavy story about the awful kidnappings that happened during the Vietnam War and sits close to home for Thanhha Lai herself. She fled Vietnam during the war with her family and ended up in Alabama, USA.

Knowing the concept of Butterfly Yellow sat so close to her personal life story, right away I thought I was going to be raving about this read.

Although the story is heart wrenching I didn’t enjoy it near as much as I thought I would. Which honestly breaks my heart to say and makes me feel awful, especially being such a raw look into true moments from the past and touching on awful moments that still happen to this day in some countries.

Butterfly Yellow had huge potential to be an extremely powerful story.

The first 70-80 pages of this book started off amazing with Hang finally reaching the US to find her brother, who she believed to still be in danger. But as Hang met LeeRoy a wonderful young man willing to help Hang in her desperate travels. The story started to fall apart. I found it very choppy and as if details were left out. I was finding myself having a hard time following what was happening, almost as if the plot needed more context. There were also added moments of drama that I felt didn’t need to be in this already overwhelming sad story.

I have heard raving reviews on Thanhha Lai’s Inside Out & Back Again, which is written in verse. There were moments while reading Butterfly Yellow that I felt Lai was almost heading toward writing in that format. Maybe that would have brought this read to life for me….. I don’t know.

All this being said, Butterfly Yellow is not an awful novel and many would connect with it on a different level than I have.

I am not upset by any means that I read Butterfly Yellow. It brings attention to events that shouldn’t be ignored or forgotten and if history is an interest of yours at all, than I do suggest you give this one a go.

Cameron has done it! He is a new favourite author of mine.

I honestly had never read a 80’s slasher horror read before. To be honest I never even realised anything such as this existed within sub genres in horror. Until I took part in the BookTube’s: Bloody Beach Readatlong. Thank goodness for this readalong held by incredible BookTubers because I have now found one of my favourite type of reads within horror.

Kill River and Kill River 2 read exactly as 80’s slasher films. The first half is a slower paced read. Giving the perfect moment to introduce the characters, get a feel for their personalities and what they were all about. The plot was described in such perfect detail. I could really envision the scenes and where the characters where in each moment. It also gave me time to pick and choose my favourite characters and not so favourite.

I found myself even before the creepy moments started working around in my head who I thought was going to be killed first and potentially how they were going to die.

You know….just based on your typical slasher film rules. You know … those rules….If you don’t… than I don’t think you are a true slasher films lover!

Cameron’s description for both the characters and the settings were phenomenal and without being overly wordy. I felt as though I was seeing everything Cyndi and her friends where in the moment, right down to the beautifully landscaped water park decorated with the perfect wildflowers and other designs. Now this may become to hard for some to read when the murder scenes start. They did get extremely gruesome at times, so be sure you have a good strong stomach…. I can’t stress this enough.

These reads are not for everyone. But if you want to experience some of that 80’s slasher film nostalgic feels be sure to pick up both Kill River and its amazing sequel Kill River 2.

The slasher horror read with a deep underlining story.

Fat Camp was brilliant.

Phillip had lost so much in his close family life. Decides its time to do better by himself, runs off to camp Wasicu to lose weight. Only to lose much more than what he signed up for. Yet the strength that builds within Phillip is inspiring. He himself is a force to be reckoned with.

The slasher moments within Fat Camp were well done. They reminded me of a true slasher film. Quick, unexpected and shocking. Also not over the top, quiet realistic which only added to the chill factor.

I know the focus for most while reading this book is the murder scenes but I couldn’t help but get pulled right into the character growth as well. Existing relationships that flourished and new relationships launched. All while getting your quench of shocking, gory moments.

Moral of the story with Fat Camp. Don’t mess around with others, be careful how you wrong people. You never know who will decide to get an awful revenge!

Fat Camp was the perfect edition to my summer reads! Thank goodness my son was back from his summer camp long before I read this.

I would highly recommend this read. Sneak it in before our summer is completely gone.

Cannibal Nuns From Outer Space is truly one of a kind.

The nuns are a force to be reckoned with……….“That is one ugly mother…”

Father Flynn is a bad-ass in his own……….“Anyone out of the Old Testament, Beards were very much in vogue back then.”

With all the trash, all the cheese (and I don’t mean cheap ass cheese, I am talking the high end, expensive stinky cheese) and gut wrenching laughs. This is a grade A classy book for anyone’s book shelves. I don’t think I have had so much fun reading something in a very long time. Now this book is not for everyone, but if you have a tremendous sense of humour, you don’t mind a bit of crude content and are up for a little bit of gore splashed with a whole lot of hilarious moments, look no further!… Cannibal Nuns from Outer Space is for you.

Now not only is the guts of the book fan-freaking-tastic but the physical book is glorious! Depending on the edition you get….(may I suggest the Hardcover special edition copy). The book reads just as a B movie. You get the play button, movie previews (which all need to be brought to book), movie posters. Then of course you have a soundtrack and end credits. Now if you go the route I suggested and get the hard cover special edition you also receive alternate endings and a few other little jazzy features.

Find out if Father Flynn saves the day. See if you can spot which Nun’s are good vs evil. Spend some one on one time with Phil De Hole and fall in love with Albie.

So happy that I read Cannibal Nuns from Outer Space with my fellow BookTubers. This has easily become one of my most talked about favourites in my 2019 reading year.

I was hooked from the very first sentence!

I have heard so many amazing things about Gilly’s writing. Personally this was my first read by her. I thoroughly enjoyed it and will for sure be check out more of her work in the near future.

Gilly had a fascinating concept, executed it perfectly and brought it to life.

Both the plot and character growth was brilliant throughout. Gilly knows exactly how to set an eerie vibe while keeping the characters completely relate-able. The moment I figured I knew exactly what was happening and who was to blame there was a shift causing me to question all of my original thoughts.

I found The Nanny extremely consumable, itching to know who the criminal was.

Now you may be wondering how I could love it so much but only have given it a 4 out of 5 stars. The Nanny was written from multiple perspectives and although I love reading novels written in this form. Moments within someones story line it would jump back and forth between the current time and the past, with a choppy transition. Not wanting to be confused, this caused me to go back and re-read a few times. Or I would keep reading in hopes that things would start to piece together, which of course it did and I was not disappointed.

A psychological thriller at its best!
